First off, I made a mistake with this - the packaging shouts about "5 blades" and I thought that meant the package comes with five replacement blade heads. It doesn't. You only get one five-bladed head with the handle stem. So that's my own mistake!
The easy open plastic packaging is a stroke of genius! No more wildly stabbing at moulded plastic with kitchen knives. The Sugarberry smell is quite nice, kind of like fruity chew penny sweets. But that's where the good stuff ends...
For all it's five-bladed head, it doesn't shave well. The balm pads on either side of the razor are so big they stop the razor having good skin contact around curves (especially noticeable when shaving armpits), so you either have to accept as stubbly result or have to re-shave the same area a few times.
The balm pads take a while to start working (they don't foam, but secrete a sort of gel). It's impossible to work them up yourself with your fingers, you need to use the...

What a lot of unnecessary faffing about! Firstly the pads top and bottom of the blades are huge and get in the way, consequently the blades don’t make contact with the skin and so a close shave is not achieved. I found the pads completely ineffective until used at least twice after which they produce a somewhat slimy substance - presumably the moisturiser. Secondly, why do manufacturers of these things feel it necessary to have so many blades, when actually one will do the job? Cleaning the blades is tricky – running the razor under a fairly high pressure tap the best way, but those blades are sharp, so be careful. Although I eventually got a close shave – after two attempts - I had to apply moisturising lotion later in the day as my legs were burning.
What I do like is the little stick on holder for the shower – a nifty little idea and very useful.
Easy open packaging - always a bonus, so well done there, but where has the...

I've used the Venus Embrace for a year now and I don't think I'll move away from it, despite the price of replacement blades and despite receiving this razor for review. The reasons?
Both are similar in price for replacement blades, but with this razor, the Olay goo (there's no other explanation for it) was a little too gooey and so I actually ended up with the blades bogged down with hair before I realised that I should be rinsing, and I missed patches. Unfortunately, because of the moisturing effect, and moisturising after my bath, I didn't actually realise that I'd missed bits until showering the next day. By then, I didn't have time to touch up, as I'd have missed my train, so it was back to tights.
The bars of goo are a little too flexible and on even the first use, one side has broken off a bit, meaning that the next shave will probably break it off completely, making the blade less decent value for money. Additionally, at the end of my shave, in order to...
