A good shave for the cost conscious, 16 April 2014

This is a good shaver in that it's powerful due to being connected to the mains and not a battery (it has no battery), but there are certain build quality issues. This is understandable given the price, but they might put certain people off nonetheless.The curly cord frequently detaches from the shaver if you stretch it. This is of course quite necessary unless you have a shaving socket very close to hand.The unit itself feels hollow and light, being made entirely of cheap plastic.These price point issues aside, it gives a good shave if you're a rotary fan and the pop-up trimmer is excellent.

Cheap and quiet - but ineffective, 5 April 2014

First some context: I gave up electric shaving with the advent of the Gillette Sensor in the 1990s and have been a cartridge system user ever since. Still, there are mornings when I don't feel like lathering up but don't want to go out looking like I've forgotten to shave, so an electric that will do a quick and tolerable job has a place in my bathroom. I bought a little Braun foil shaver three years ago but never really took to it, so I wondered if a rotary might do a better job.

It doesn't. The rotary action is at least quieter than the reciprocating head of a foil shaver, but it's sometimes hard to tell if the blades are doing anything at all. It's certainly not quick, even on the flatter parts of my face, the rocking head seems to prevent the cutters making good contact, and my skin still ends up feeling pulled about and itchy. The manual tells me to use the shaver daily for four weeks to get used to it, but I suspect this is just so I have time to forget how a good...

Being a mains only shaver this one packs quite a punch giving a very close shave compared with some battery only models. The triple heads rotate at an angle allowing for closer shaving in the difficult areas below the jaw and under the nose. This is quite a light model and is reasonably compact. The trimmer I found to be better than a lot of models and quite a wide blade. All in all this is a very good shaver, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. I will still keep my Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 handy as that is the best shave (outside of Turkey) that I can get.
