Another scam, 28 Nov. 2009

I persevered with this product for months, and it didn't have the slightest effect on my hair. At first glance this product seems legitimate, due to the price and all the safety precautions, but it really is just an enormous scam. When you take the machine out of the box is feels unreassuringly light and flimsy, almost like a hollow shell of plastic. I wonder what you'd find if you cracked it open - a few wires and not much else, I expect. When activated, the laser head emits a minuscule red laser beam which slowly scans a patch of skin smaller than a five pence piece. I didn't feel a thing while using it, which made me wonder whether it was actually doing anything. It takes a long time to cover a small area of skin with the Rio and, surprise surprise, my hair grew back with the same tenacity as before. I used the Rio on the same part of my body many times, and I don't think it succeeded in destroying a single hair. I ought to be an ideal candidate for laser hair removal, having pale...

Really works, 9 Dec. 2007
I bought the Rio Scanning Laser and was pretty sceptical. But after using it for a few weeks I can honestly say that the areas that I have treated have much less hair and there is much less hair regrowing. It was a bit scary to use at first. I think it was the idea of a laser that got to me but once I was zapping I found it didn't hurt at all. The manual is excellent and there is a DVD too so it proved really simple to use. It wasn't quite as instant as I hoped (I probably expected too much) and although it treats 20 hairs at a time this is not that big an area. So you have to stick at it to get results. But when I checked out the prices in the salons it was hundreds of pounds and I was a bit emabarrassed about the whole thing. So the Rio laser has given me an alternative at a lot less money.

Another explanation on why you won't get anywhere, 12 Dec. 2008

Hi,

I naievely thought this device would target multiple hairs, because of the pictures. Look at the woman holding the device against her - that is NOT how you end up using it. Imagine you are looking at this device, it looks reasonably heavy and substantial doesn't it? It's not, it's feather light because there is very little inside it. The 'head' of the device looks quite big (on purpose), but underneath it is a very low-powered (read: Useless) laser for focussing on 1 hair at a time. The problem is that the laser is surrounded by plastic to stop you getting near the beam - unfortunately, it makes it much more difficult/fiddly to target the beam - you kind of have to guess where it will need to be positioned. As soon as you actually start using it, you realise it takes about 5-10 minutes of concentration PER HAIR. At the same time, it dawns on you how many hairs you need to remove. Most of us out there didn't buy this to get rid of 1 or 2 hairs, we know there are hundreds of...
