This is one of those products that is just okay, and isn't really necessary. Buying it and then keeping it stocked with refills (which aren't cheap) and batteries is pricier than I would like, and the results are no better than with a cheap manual buffer, though admittedly there is a little less effort involved.

In the package you get the battery-operated wand, a battery and three filing heads. You don't get the six heads and storage bag that the product description mentions, which is a shame as a bigger variety of filing heads would be really useful and a bag for storing all the bits is essential - luckily I had an empty toiletry bag to use.

The device is pretty easy to use, and it cuts out if you apply too much pressure so theoretically you shouldn't damage your nails unless you use it more frequently than it suggests (which is fifteen seconds once a fortnight). You follow the three-step system: file, buff, polish. It's easy to shape your nails and the end...

The Scholl Velvet Smooth Nail Care System comes in a rigid transparent plastic case, with the instructions printed on a card which is inside the case. Getting the system out without destroying the card requires great care, but that is the only criticism I have.Refreshingly, the single AA battery is already installed, so it only requires the removal of the isolating tab to activate.The system works on hands or feet and the three interchangeable heads provide a complete manicure or pedicure. The first head is a file for shaping nails; the first instinct is to use it like a conventional file but as soon as you overcome this instinct, it works beautifully.The second head buffs the nails to a smooth finish and is great for removing small imperfection and ridges.Finally, the third head polishes the nails leaving an attractive gloss finish.A very handy and effective system that makes nail care simple.

Not bad but Scholl could have done better., 9 Nov. 2015

This Scholl Electric Nail System consists of a battery operated unit to which you can attach one of three files (nail file, mail buffer and nail polisher). This device takes one AA battery which is supplied.The filing heads are numbered 1, 2 & 3 and you should use them in that order. There to modes of operation, slow and fast.I have used a few electric nail systems over the years and this one isn't so bad, although I have to agree with the other reviewers that Scholl could have included more grades of nail files. The nail file head is quite rough and without a finer file I found that my nails lacked the really smooth edges required to put on 10 denier tights and I managed to snag a pair.Apart from the lack of finer file (I used a fine manual file after the rougher one), I was able to quickly manicure my nails into a delicate rounded shape and buff and polish them to a decent shine.
