I have used every type of razor over the years, from the traditional cut-throat, through the original type safety razor, onto more elaborate types. These days I also shave my head, so I need something that can cope with both my head and face without being awkward to hold. I was using the Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium Razor which I thought was the Bee's Knees. So, did I find this razor any good?
Firstly I need something that easily glides over my head and face, I need something that gives me an extremely close shave, that doesn't irritate, and that I can use in both directions (with and against the grain), and something that I don't have to pull my skin (for quickness sake). This met all my requirements, and more. I've tried every razor under the sun from the old safety razors to Gillette Fusion Power over the last 30 years. I have tough fast growing stubble and a tendency to ingrowing hairs. I had settled on the Gillette sensor 3 as the best best in terms of closeness, lack of bumps, price and staying power....
The Gillette Mach 3 and descendants of Mach 3 all tended to bounce over my stubble, didn't shave closely, gave me a rash and lasted 3-4 days which considering the high price was just a waste of time and money.
The Hydro 3 is a similar style in that the handle attaches at the blade towards the edge rather than the middle, so you feel like you won't be able to put a suitable amount of pressure on but it has a completely different feel - I've never had such a comfortable shave. It really is pain free, nicely lubricated, rinses easily, leaves nor rash, shaves closely and my skin feels really nice afterwards. I've used 3 blades so far and each one has lasted 9 shaves...
