Absolute junk, bought these for my partner to replace her trusty GHD's that she has had for 10 years. It was absolutely obvious from opening them that the quality of GHD products has taken a nose dive. However we put that to one side and she was excited to use them. Firstly the power switch has been changed from classic models to a cheap plastic thing that feels like something from an airfix kit. It has a nice beep when you turn them on, think 1980's BBC micro sound effects, and a pulse width modulated LED that shows when they are ready, accompanied by another blast from the 1980's with a harsh beep to say they are ready! Now on to the actual nuts and bolts of it, straightening hair. They don't, the plates are set at an angle which means the plates meet at the front but not at the back, to get them to meet at the back, you have to squeeze them together with so much force that the hair can get ripped at the front. The GHD Arctic Gold Straighteners are pretty, feel smooth on my hair and aren't flimsy to hold. I chose them mostly for the design as I needed to replace my old GHD's and loved the colour. I'm not sure I would describe them as a heavy Gold, rather they're a very soft Gold colour which looks great and expensive rather than cheap and flimsy.
The stylers can be used as curlers as well as straighteners if you know how - it's a really easy technique and their website does give quite a helpful how-to video for you to follow to save you purchasing tongs as well.
They are lightweight but without feeling too much like plastic (they've withstood being dropped a few times!). Equally they glide so easily along the hair that you wouldn't really notice if someone was doing your hair for you. I've found with previous GHD's that they do sometimes catch on the hair, particularly when styling curls, and especially as they become older. I did find that they probably glide a little...
